My Lighting Rig. Is Finally Done! New Videos Posted OCT 23

Postby gamer1st » Sat Mar 05, 2011 3:06 am

Now that the stage kit works again, (as of the last RB3 patch) I hooked it back up to my 360 and added an American DJ Aggressor, and a Chauvet Vue 2.1 to the stage kit's light pod, two remote strobes that I removed from the fogger housings , and one fogger. I also added a 12" mirror ball, rotating motor, and an led spotlight.
I've rigged everything so I can kill the regular overhead lights in the room, and turn on all the stage lighting with a hand held remote control.

I'd like to set up the pinspot so that it would also be sound activated, but I don't know where to get a sound control module. If anyone does know of one let me know.

I had one of my kids to kick the fog on at the last min so you could see a little of it as well.

I couldn't leave it run since it would wreak havoc on my auto focus.
I may add a color filter in front of the pinspot to tone down the white light levels in the room, but other than that it's pretty much done.

It looks like I'll be adding a few more lights too.
I found an American DJ Groove Wheel that I fell in love with, and one other pod as well. I'll post a new vid when I get it all set up.

I did finally find a controller for the spot. They're called channel chase controllers. They have four ports and change the lights by switching from one to another by sound. That way I can hook up two different pinspots with two different filter colors, and they'll switch with the music.

Here's what the groove wheel pattern looks like...

I'm in the middle of adding another bunch of lights and effects to my setup. This is what it looks like after the last round of changes when I added a Chauvet Vue III, another pinspot, an American DJ Channel Chaser, and a fogger with a remote control...

I have several other pieces sitting here I need to setup, (an American DJ Reflex 300, Two MBT FL4 Firepots, an American DJ led Fire light, and will post a new vid when I get them all set up.

For pics of what all I'm using now, along with the new pieces and how I plan to set them all up later this week, look here...

Okay... I had no idea how much I needed a disco ball and a pin-spot until I watched that video!

Your setup reeks of awesome and I am jealous. Nice work.

If anyone wants to pick up a 12" ball you can get one shipping and all for $20.00 from one of the Amazon sellers. go here...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000GAXAG0/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

And scroll down till you see a seller named DJTronix. That's where I got mine from. I almost fell over when I saw their price. The $20.00 gets you a brand new, never been opened, 12" Eliminator ball.

This is very close to done now. I only need to add one more piece.
I was originally worried that the red Fire light would be too bright.
Since it's not, I'll definitely add a blue led police light beside the red one.
The positioning of the other lights will stay like this...

The flame pot/emergency light thing is so over-the-top and works oh-so-well, too. :D

I'm right on the ragged edge of finishing my setup. Since the last video I've added several components to the show...

1 Chauvet 75watt strobe light
1 American DJ blue police light
1 Chauvet BOB flame pot

And changed 1 item. I had been using the Chauvet Vue 2.1 moon flower light. But I sold it last week and bought a Chauvet Vue 4.1 to use in it's place. The 4.1 has about 85 more LEDs than the 2.1 and many more display patterns.

I'm currently waiting on the final piece of kit. A single pin spot that should get here by Friday, (I hope).

I've gotten to play with the changed setup for the first time last night, and it's far above what I'd hoped to achieve when I started this whole deal. I'd toyed with the notion of adding several more pieces to the setup, but changed my mind after seeing it run for the first time in the new configuration. The only piece that I've still got got to add is the last pin spot.

As soon as it gets here I'll post a video of the final rig for your perusal.

Here's the video of my final lighting makeup and placement without fog...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rehF479xtBM

Here's the with fog video...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMznCiya2Eo

It's hard to see the strobe on camera. Flashes just look like the whole screen turns white for a split second.
The colors are also much more vibrant than they look in the video, and way less red. You get a good impression of what's going on from the videos, but the lighting looks so much better in person.

Did three vids this time, one without fog and two with. My fog machine has been partly stopped up and it cleared itself out partway through one of the vids. Man did the fog roll out!
There are several RBN songs that I like really well, and I had a hard time deciding which ones to use. I may just start posting vids for all the RBN tracks I rate as 5 star songs. With the prerequisite that they have enough bass in them to keep the lights moving of course.
I'll also add vids for Foundation and a dozen of the other tracks I like really well in the near future.
This first track is Self Medicate by Felson. No fog in this one...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psqq_8EFBnQ

This one is A regular DLC track I ran onto called People Got a Lot of Nerve by Neko Case. For some reason it's listed as alt country?!?!? so I overlooked it when it first came out.
This one was shot with fog...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAypL9gIYf4

And last but not least is Glow by Alien Ant Farm. This one also was shot with fog...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af_JS8edlR4

None of them show the effect really well that the Eliminator light puts out. To show that that lights effect I'll have to shoot a vid from where I normally sit.

Finally got all the lights I had been waiting on in and installed. Took quite some time to settle on the new stuff but I'm happy with it now.

The whole rig looks totally different with the new lights added, and if I don't die from the flu, (or whatever I have starting now) I'll have a vid up in the next couple days.

It took a while to get everything where I was happy with it, but it's done and the new vids are shot.

It's funny the way this works out. When you play without fog 80% of the action is on the ceiling.

And when you play with fog going 80% of the action is on the floor.

These were shot from a different position than the others because the old vids never caught the show the same way I see it. So I had this one shot from behind me. It still doesn't capture even 70% of what it's like to be in the room playing the game with all the lights going. But it's better than the old angles. The camera just can't take in everything that's going on like your eyes can with peripheral vision. But you get the idea.

I've added six new pieces to the rig this time and they totally change the look of it. This vid is shot without fog and uses the song Echo by Dance for the Dying. I actually played the bass in both of these, (for a change) and my son shot the vid for me...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNR8avI4Cys

This one was shot with fog and uses the song The Pretender by The Foo Fighters. I played bass and my son shot this vid as well...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YN7bk3WOZi4

I may redo the fog vid because the volume was a little low and it didn't make the lights go as ape-shit as they normally do.

It sounds suspiciously like you've spoken to my wife.

I've heard the terms "sickness" and "you have a problem" come from her from time to time. Of course when we play RB she also wants the light running, so I take it all with a grain of salt. :)
