Ok so I tore apart the keys today to make my John Lennon Imagine Edition Keyboard.
(Happy B-Day John)
Tear down pics:
All screws out of back. Top half slides out from under keys them opens up with the top and bottom halves still joined by wires.
Whammy and OD PCBs BACK
Control Buttons PCB BACK
OD Pedal Jack and Sync Button PCB.
Whammy and OD PCB FRONT - Whammy touch board is attached to PCB.
Control PCB Front
Most glue on connectors EVER. Left all the electronics intact due to this. Its BAD. (Cept battery box, desoldered that)
Control board PCB "TRAY" - This was nice since I coudl pull the whole thing and not worry about getting paint in the button sockets.
The orange key - The only solo key. All keys just use the plastic hinge and the button itself as the "spring" and are keyed onto a greased track nub for support. It will be interesting to see how these wear.
Other keys come out in clusterd stacks. Every other white key, then the other set, then the black keys.
Buttons the keys press and rest on.
Buttons and greased key "guides"
Felt Key bottom out cushion and "screw hole" that is melted together by Mad Catz. Drilled it out by hand easy schmeazy.
Greasy key guides and felt cushion come out as one item.
Key PCB flipped to expose brain area.
Key PCB BACK
Another well glued connector on the key PCB.
Ouch, Scalpels are sharp. (Masking)
Electronics LOOM complete less battery box.
